Abstract:
The article reports on the study of 140 idioms containing medicine related component in (1) lexical structure, (2) meaning, (3) lexical and semantic structure. The thematic classification of the idioms revealed the prevalence of nominations of emotions (82%). Nominal word combinations (65) outnumber verbal ones (48). The distributional patterns of the idioms are studied based on the online corpus of texts. The frequency search performed by the Google Books Ngram viewer tool provided the graphical representation of the idioms' occurrence.
