This paper deals with the study of the properties and skills that can serve as external criteria of success in the professional activities of representatives of socio-technical professions, in particular, the continuous glass fiber production operators (hereinafter-the CGFP operators). There is also a description of possible personal factors that contribute to faults in the production based on a survey of experts, such as craftsmen, senior craftsmen, engineers, and staff of the labor department. Objective of the study was to identify those abilities and qualities, which a representative of sociotechnical profession should have to successfully carry out his/her professional operations. To achieve the objective, we used theoretical and empirical research methods such as analysis and systematization of the related literature on the research topic, investigation of the standard documentation, and method of expert evaluations. Results of the study are presented in the paper text, which contains the results of the study of external criteria of successful performance of continuous glass fiber production, the identified individual features that lead to faults in the performance of professional tasks, and a qualitative analysis of the results. Hundred percent of subjects noted responsibility and experience in executing actions as key qualities, 75% of the experts named accuracy, precision in executing actions (54%), diligence and time of reaction (50%). The factors identified as those leading to faults were inadequate training (100%), altered state of person (96%), lack of individual, professionally important, intellectual qualities of the operator (100%), and the lack of individual, professionally important, personal qualities of the operator (83%). The obtained findings can serve as a basis for further study of the features of operator activity, in particular, the factors that help to reach acme in the above type of professions.
