Air pollution poses serious health, environmental and economic problems for urban areas and contributes to global climate change. Road transport is one of the most significant issuers of pollutants. Among the atmospheric pollutants, black carbon has an extremely negative impact on the environment, especially in the Arctic territories. This article analyzes the impact of black carbon and existing ways to reduce black carbon emissions. A method for reducing black carbon emissions from road transport has been proposed, simulation models have been developed for a section of the road network in Murmansk (the largest city in the Arctic Circle). As a result of experiments on models, it was shown that there is a significant potential for reducing emissions of pollutants, including black carbon, in this area.
