COLLAGEN SYNTHESIS in the SKIN, ITS FUNCTIONAL and STRUCTURAL FEATURES

Abstract

Collagen is the most important element of the skin structure; it provides the main mechanical and functional skin properties. Different authors often mention three types of collagen: collagen I, II, III type, while this review describe all collagen types, participated in the formation of the skin extracellular matrix, and collagen functions. This review also shows the complex multi-step process of collagen synthesis, influenced by genetic and non-genetic factors.
