The paper analyzes a number of peculiarities that can occur during data transmission using a multi-position amplitude-phase-shift keyed signal with N discrete states in a nonparametric, frequency-selective communication channel with intersymbol interference. The analysis of these peculiarities is carried out from the practical point of view during implementation of radio engineering data transmission systems operating in such a channel. Particular attention is paid to the possibility of increasing the transmission speed in these communication channels using so called "transparency windows" in the presence of a number of adverse factors, such as frequency detuning and phase and envelope measurement errors introduced at the receiver end. Based on the study, recommendations are made to increase the data transmission speed for such communication channels.
