All rights reserved. The composite materials containing metal nanoparticles (MNPs) are now considered as a basis for designing new photonic media for optoelectronics and nonlinear optics. We present here a review of recent results on the nonlinear optical properties of silicate glass dielectrics with ion-synthesized copper and silver nanoparticles in the near IR spectral range. The nanocomposites prepared by the ion implantation are characterized by a growth of MNPs in a thin layer of irradiated substrate surface. The fabricated structures show specific nonlinear optical properties in the case of picosecond laser pulses. The recommendations for fabrication of composites with implanted MNPs for optical components and their applications are discussed.
