Abstract:
The conditions of an open society in Russia, the creation of a new socio-cultural space led to changes not only in the economic and political spheres of society, but also in the social and cultural context of learning foreign languages. In these circumstances, a foreign language, being a means of intercultural communication and self-realization in the outside world, is becoming really popular in the life and activity of a man. Accordingly, the status of a foreign language as an academic discipline is increasing significantly that leads to a rethinking and radical renewal of the content of a foreign language teaching. As a result of activities undertaken in the framework of the Russian-British project on the expertise of British teaching courses, Longman educational-methodical complexes were approbated in a number of Russian schools. The setting of new goals and learning objectives that meet the need of developing the students' ability to use a language as a tool of communication and generalization in the context of the dialogue of cultures is the most relevant to the requirements of the modern society development. The most significant moment that determined the choice of Longman educational-methodical complexes as basic textbooks is their following the principle of continuity and succession of language education at different stages of learning.
