© 2015, Allerton Press, Inc. Two methods of forming short pulses from a single-phonon wave packet are compared. The first of these, known as gamma-echo method, is based on the rapid shift of a resonant absorber to the half-wavelength of the radiation at the moment it passes through the absorber. The second method is based on the transmission of radiation through an vibrating absorber. The advantages and disadvantages of both methods are discussed.
