Abstract:
1. It was shown by the spectrophotometric method that 1:1 molecular compounds are formed in solutions of maleic anhydride in thiophene and in selenophene. 2. Similar intermediate compounds are formed in solutions of maleic anhydride in furan, piperylene, and isoprene, and at room temperature these then pass into the adduct. Because of the rapidity of reaction it was not possible to detect the formation of an intermediate compound in a solution of maleic anhydride in cyclopentadiene. 3. No absorption attributable to a complex was detected in a solution of isoprene in acrylonitrile. © 1960 Consultants Bureau Enterprises, Inc.
