1. A thermographic study of the reaction of trialkyl phosphites with halogen compounds showed the presence of two exothermic effects which merged into a single exothermic effect when rapid heating was applied. The two exothermic effects can be interpreted as corresponding to two stages of the rearrangement. However, viscosity data are not in accord with this view, and the question requires further investigation. 2. The reactions of ethylphosphonous and diethylphosphinous esters with alkyl halides give thermograms that show two exothermic effects, indicating the two stages of the rearrangement. © 1960 Consultants Bureau Enterprises, Inc.
