Methods of assessment in mammography: BI-RADS lexicon

© 2020, Advanced Scientific Research. All rights reserved. The article presents a review of researches in Russia connected with the use of BI-RADS lexicon. The Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS lexicon) is a standardized international instrument which helps to analyze and unify the results of radiological breast examination and provides recommendations for further diagnosis and treatment. Nowadays its 5th edition containing the instructions for ultrasound, radiological and MRI breast examination is widely used in Europe, USA and other countries in routine practice of specialists in oncology, breast diseases, radiology, obstetrics and gynecology. In Russia the implementation of this instrument started during last decade. The authors analyze Russian peer-reviewed publications devoted to different editions of BI-RADS lexicon or connected with its implementation and the specifics of using this system in Russian medical practice. The paper underlines several important recommendations of Food and Drug Administration connected with the use of BI-RADS terminology, wordings and categories. The article is intended for the specialists in diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer diseases.
