To study changes in the concentrations of the elements Cr, Mn, Cu, Zn in serum and red blood cells of peripheral blood, and also the related indices of cellular membrane permeability in newborns with pathologies of the early neonatal period and their. Patients and methods. 98 pairs of full-term newborns and their mothers were examined, of them 58 pairs from the neonatal pathology department comprised group 1, and 40 conditionally healthy mother-baby pairs – group 2 (control). We compared the group means of quantitative signs in these groups for the elements Cr, Mn, Cu, Zn, and also of the related cell-membrane permeabiity indices. Correlations for all parameters were calculated within the groups. Resuts. The data we have obtained are indicative of the permanence of chromium and copper concentrations. But correlation analysis shows an increased need for these elements in newborns. In newborns with pathologies, decreased plasma manganese and zinc are observed. This might be regarded as one of the pathogenetic links of adaptation disturbance and development of disease in newborns. Conclusion. The results are demonstrative of the biological role of manganese and zinc in the development of early neonatal pathologies in newborns, which presupposes a regular control over concentrations of these elements in pregnant women. Supplementation of pregnant women with zinc in pathologies of pregnancy does not necessarily result in a sufficient provision of a newborn baby with this element.
