The concept of "science education for sustainable development" is considered, including environmental education, social and economic components. Emphasis is placed on the environmental component. The pedagogical conditions for the preparation of teachers of natural sciences for the sustainable development of society are identified and justified. The stages of their implementation are considered on the example of chemical education.
