Educational institution’s software audit

This paper describes an audit in the IT field, namely the audit of software which is being used in a higher educational institution by the example of Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University. The most significant goal of such an audit is to discover the full list of programs installed on the enterprise’s computers. This list should be exhaustive without exception and include all such software, both really used by employees for the purpose to solve their own daily issues, and the programs that are not used, and were simply downloaded as a matter of interest. Among other things, the software incorrectly deleted from the computers and retained its “fingerprints” in the system, should be included in the list. In this paper, a comparison was made of the most well-known and used products, namely, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and Kaspersky Security Center, and a comparative integration of all the information collected by these means has been performed. Collecting and processing data on the software installed on the computers of an educational institution is a time-consuming task. The automated software auditing system remotely connects to computers on the local network and accumulates data about the software installed there. To improve this process, a program with the necessary interface has been written, which allows a database to obtain that contains data about all computers with the software installed on them. This will further make it possible to formulate recommendations for the further development of the computer fleet with the use of KFU as an example.
