The distinctive characteristics of the project activity as a stage of continuous engineering and technical education are highlighted. An example of an educational and research project on the corrosion resistance of aluminum is considered, and the competences are defined. The application of project training for the formation of subject competencies and early vocational guidance of students in the field of engineering education has been substantiated.
