One of the most effective technologies for extracting super-viscous oil is Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage technology (SAGD). SAGD involves a pair of horizontal wells which drilled into the oil reservoir, one a few meters above the other. The length of horizontal sections on heavy-oil deposits in Tatarstan is 700-1000m. The deposit considered is heterogeneous from the point of view of lithology and saturation. Since SAGD wells are expensive and the horizontal wellbore filter is very long, to make SAGD profitable, it is necessary to optimize the downhole equipment. Special attention should be paid to determining the intervals of flow of a horizontal well and distribution of the drainage areas in the reservoir. In the process of industrial implementation of the SAGD technology, it becomes necessary to establish the optimum injection point for steam and a pump in horizontal wells. The proposed approach allows increasing the effectiveness of horizontal wellbore in the heavy-oil fields. Distributed Temperature Sensors (DTS) are widely used in Tatarstan. In this paper, the joint use of the results of DTS and an innovative approach based on geochemical monitoring of the process of developing heavy-oil fields to address some of the shortcomings in the use of DTS is considered.
