dc.description.abstract © SGEM2019. This paper presents the results of a study of the mineral composition of rocks on the example of one of the high viscosity oil deposits. Studies were performed using X-ray diffraction analysis. Samples of both the reservoir itself, represented by bituminous sandstone, and samples of overburden and underlying formations composed of clays and limestones were studied. Samples were taken from several wells, which makes possible to judge the variability of the mineral composition along strike. The content clay minerals according to the results of X-ray phase analysis in the clay sample averaged 10%, in limestone 5%, in sandstone 3-4%. These terrigenous deposits contain a significant amount of feldspathic minerals, such as clinochlore, microcline, and albite. The calcite content in clay averages 17%, in sandstone 13%, in limestone 59%. The results suggest a complex mineral composition of the studied deposit. Each mineral has its own strength characteristics, and its volume will influence the elastic characteristics of the reservoir. The component composition of the object under study the basis for further modeling of the velocity characteristics of the studied geological section of the RockPhysics methods.
