dc.description.abstract	© 2019 Elsevier Ltd Reactions of 3-iodopyridine with [BiX6]3− solutions in HX (X = Cl, Br) results in chloro- and bromobismuthate complexes (3-IPyH)2{[BiCl5]}·H2O (1) and (3-IPyH)4[Bi2Br10]·2H2O. In both cases, halogen⋯halogen contacts play important role in formation of crystal packing; energies of these interactions were estimated by theoretical methods.
