dc.description.abstract © 2016, Springer Science+Business Media New York.Hemodialysis patients were studied to identify secondary hyperparathyroidism. The presence of elevated intact parathyroid hormone level was analyzed in different age and gender groups. It was revealed that the secondary hyperparathyroidism often developed at a younger age. In the elder age group, it was significantly more likely to develop on the background of long-term presence on renal replacement therapy. Development of hyperparathyroidism does not depend on the patient’s gender identity.
