Historical traditions and development of university sport in Kazan university today

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to consider historical traditions and development of university sport in Kazan university today. The activity of Kazan university, established by the decree of Emperor Alexander I in the liberal period of his reign, was remarkable for the flexible combination of centralization and autonomy, according to the University regulations. The pedagogical ideas of famous mathematician and philosopher N.I. Lobachevsky were of great value in realizing the role of physical education in the formation of moral qualities and social adaptation of young people. The name of M. T. Nuzhin is associated with the true renaissance of sport life in Kazan university. Undoubtedly, Student games, being actively developed in our university, are a strong stimulus for further development of university sport. Student games enabled advancing in the development of the volunteer movement, which plays an invaluable role in formation of established civic stand among young people, changing their world view, familiarization with the ideas of solidarity and mutual assistance. The over two centuries long sport life in our university interpreted as a single tradition, which fits the development of international student sport is an important factor of succession of the sports movement, awareness of the participants of their involvement in the university and Olympic sport. From this historical point of view, the highly symbolic dates associated with Student games 2013 in our city are being clarified: the 90th anniversary of the World Student Games in Paris and the 40th anniversary since the VII summer Student games in Moscow.
