dc.description.abstract	The thrust of a competition toward the high-tech industry predetermines the considerable broadening of the innovation scope in the global economic system by drawing a variety of new sectors in it which have been earlier classified as the high-tech ones. The special place among them is held by the electric power sector. The article deals with the challenges and opportunities for the use of the cluster mechanism in the innovationdriven development of the energy systems. © IDOSI Publications, 2013.
