This paper examines the research questions relating to the impact of large and socially significant (regional-forming) enterprises on regional development processes. Discriminant analysis is applied as a methodology to classify regional enterprises based on their economic solvency. The paper presents the results of: 1) Estimations of the economic efficiency and solvency of regional enterprises on the basis of the main parameters of financial and economic activity; and 2) Discriminant analysis and consecutive step-by-step refinement of estimations according to theoretical financial norms. The technique is tested on a data set of around 500 large and socially significant enterprises of the Republic of Tatarstan. © 2007 R. V. Kashbrasiev, M. V. Panasyuk. |
