The article explores the acute and urgent problem of modern civilization – the problem of violence against women in the context of the most important issues of culture and sociology of society. The key aspect of the authors’ interest is the development of ways to resolve the emerging contradictions. Alongside the consideration of gender issues, the method of axiological analysis is applied. The first section of the article is devoted to the study of the problem as a whole and to a systematic review of the main methods of scientific analysis that are applied. The most complete and adequate vision of the problem of violence is provided by the synthesis of data received by natural medical and humanitarian sciences. The research of the problem of spiritual healing that plays one of the decisive roles in counteracting the phenomenon of violence against a woman in society is introduced through the study of the extensive historical and literary material. The second section provides the necessary insight into the issue by involving the data of Russian literary culture genesis. It is focused on ancient Russian literature and its traditions in the following epochs (from Alexander Pushkin to Fyodor Dostoyevsky and a number of other writers). The methodological dominant of this stage is the value approach. The subsequent third section of the article is linked with the second section by the methodology of comparative-typological analysis. A set of the 18 th – 21 st centuries’ social theories of violence as a painful and negative phenomenon in the socio-cultural sphere of society is considered here. A species within this complex process is violence against a woman. One of the most radical solutions to the most acute social problem of violence against women is the concept of feminism. The next special part of the article is a systematic review of the main stages of the research approbation. The final fifth section of the article is a set of the proposed recommendations and perspectives. They are connected with the applied tasks of social medicine and with the general moral and cultural orientations of modern society through the concepts of upbringing and education.
