dc.description.abstract The quality of gas exchange is a key factor that affects the technical and economic features of the internal combustion engine (ICE). The gas distribution mechanism (GDM) is responsible for managing gas flows and its failures account for 7-10% of the total number of failures in vehicle engines. The demand for a comprehensive assessment of its technical condition without dismantling brings to the fore the methods of vibroacoustic diagnostics since they are most sensitive to various deviations in the mechanism performance parameters. Our studies allowed us to establish the relationship of the values of expansion gaps in the valve gear, the values of GDM phases, the tightness of the "valve-seat" coupling with the vibration energy indicators accompanying the interaction of separate mechanism elements, and their phase reference to the crankshaft rotation angle. The developed method makes it possible to quickly determine the main malfunctions in the GDM of the engine without dismantling, which contributes to an increase in the level of ICE operational reliability and, as a result, reduces vehicle downtime.
