Microanalysis of mass sources — protocols of volost judges’ decisions —allows to reveal the features of the national legislative culture and everyday life of peasant socio-economic life in post-reform Russia. On the basis of a previously unpublished book of decisions of Klyuchevski volost judges for 1873, stored in the State Archives of the Sverdlovsk Region, the paperwork of peasant judges of one volost of the Irbitsky district of the Perm province has been analyzed. The author believes that the microhistory of volost justice in certain localities complements the macrohistory of legal processes with specific examples from the everyday life of the multimillion part of the population of the Russian Empire.
